Garageband Vs Audacity Podcasting
Although Garageband is definitely good value for it's price if you just want to record something you can just as well use audacity. Garageband has a large library with sound effects and good sounding instruments like drums, strings,trumpets etc. So it's a good (and cheap) place to start with if you want to compose something more than just your voice and guitar, like adding a bit of rhythm. While audacity is available for both Windows and Mac, GarageBand is a mac-only software and even if your mac does not have GarageBand pre-installed on it.

Sorry this is late in posting, its been a crazy last couple of days here at the French House. On Thursday, we had a Music Department concert of Claude Debussy's works (part of a series to commemorate the 150th anniversary of his birth) with a reception to follow, which meant that we were cooking and serving quiche, salad and cake (well Wegmans did that part) to 60-70 people. The next day we had progressive dinner for the International Christmas Party where people would go to the Casa Italiana for appetizers, the Casa Hispana for dinner, then to the Maison Francaise for dessert. About 75 people were expected/planned for, about double that showed up. On Saturday we had a Gouter-Conversation with the Alliance Francaise where we serve coffe, tea and a little something to eat (thus a 'gouter') and converse in French. Needless to say, I'm tuckered out!
But I digress, I was originally going to talk about Interactive PowerPoint but since most people saw that already I decided to share how to upload an Audacity file into GarageBand, which I finally figured out how to do about two hours ago when I went to the Mac lab this morning to record my podcast vocals.
I recorded a little test into Audacity to that I would have something to save. When I went to save the File (File > Save As), the program told me that if I saved the file that way it would only be able to be reopened by Audacity and that if I needed to open it in another program to click File>Export. So I did. I chose to save the file as an Mp3 since that is widely used. I was then informed that I needed a LAME encoder and was prompted to click 'Download' to obtain one. A new window will open and then click on the link near the top that says to download the LAME encoder for Windows and then click on the version that you were prompted to. From there you should be able to save the file as an Mp3.
To transfer the file to GarageBand, simply open a GarageBand file, find the file that you want to transfer in the Finder and drag it into GarageBand. It worked for you, so hopefully it shoule work for you (or else I look rather silly, don't I?)
